DTI’s speed control valve, or velocity fuse, plays a critical role in maintaining safe production or drilling operations. The speed control valve is a hydraulic safety device designed to protect the cylinders and vessel from damage as a result of a mechanical failure such as a wireline break or riser parting.
During normal operations, the valve remains open to allow fluid within the system to flow in accordance with vessel heave and the subsequent cylinder stroke. The valve is designed to close at a rod velocity that is representative of a run-away condition.
The workings of the valve are assembled as a removable unit. The unit is made up of the poppet, load spring, shaft and retaining bracket.
